Milestone Assessments
Milestone Assessments
What is a Milestone Assessment?
A milestone assessment, also known as a milestone inspection, involves evaluating the current structural integrity and safety of existing buildings and providing a timeline of the remaining lifespan of key components, often required by local building codes or regulations for condominiums and buildings that meet certain criteria in Florida. Milestone assessments are important because they help identify potential issues, ensuring that the building is safe for current and future occupants. By verifying that buildings meet required standards, these inspections contribute to the overall quality and longevity of the building or structure ensuring it functions effectively over time.
Who needs it and when is it required?
In Florida, it is required for condominiums, commercial buildings, and cooperative buildings that are 30 years old or older and have three or more floors, and must be conducted every 10 years after that initial inspection; buildings located within three miles of the coastline need the first inspection at 25 years old.
