Project Overview
Engineering Solutions was hired to provide a City of Boca Raton Safety Structural and Electrical Recertification for a 3-story, 7,500 sq. ft. concrete block and concrete structure consisting of exterior CMU walls and exterior cast-in-place concrete balconies. The structural conditions assessment identified signs of deterioration due to water intrusion, concrete cracking, concrete spalling and rebar corrosion, using non-destructive testing of the structural components. The evaluation followed protocols developed by the City of Boca Raton Building Department and the Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023). Electrical recertification included electricians opening all accessible common and distribution equipment for visual and IR inspection, sampling of units to observe typical life safety systems and interior wiring, and assessment of the facility's management and maintenance processes. Deliverables consisted of a sealed City of Boca Raton Recertification Report with a list of deficiencies requiring repair and recommended (non-required) upgrades.
The Challenge
Documenting concealed structural deterioration in exterior CMU walls and cast-in-place balconies, and verifying electrical life safety systems throughout an occupied, tenant-filled commercial building without disruptive demolition.
Our Solution
Non-destructive testing paired with a systematic visual and infrared electrical inspection of common and distribution equipment and a representative sample of units, delivered as a sealed City of Boca Raton recertification report with prioritized repair and upgrade recommendations per the Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023).
