Project Overview
During a site walk-through, the architect identified 39 total instances of required structural repair to the existing 4-story balcony systems of the Addison and IL Buildings at Stratford Court in Boca Raton, Florida. The balconies exhibited signs of structural duress due to steel corrosion of their primary load-bearing elements. Engineering Solutions performed a thorough documentation review and in-depth analysis of the existing system to determine the required demolition of existing conditions, construction sequencing for repairs, and new retrofits to the existing structure. Multiple site visits confirmed the information gathered in the document review.
The Challenge
Thirty-nine balconies across two occupied 4-story buildings showing steel corrosion in primary load-bearing elements, each requiring retrofits that fit within the existing architectural program.
Our Solution
Permittable construction documents for the demolition and renovation of the existing balcony framing, prepared for submission to Palm Beach County, with coordination for temporary stability during construction and repairs designed for gravity and lateral loading per the Florida Building Code.
